Contract Services R&R Ltd, CEG & Liverpool John Moores University
Exchange Station, Liverpool Project Type
Large scale electrical refurbishment
In 2018, we completed a large-scale electrical refurbishment for CEG, one of Liverpool’s main land owners.
The work took place within the basement, ground, first, second, third and fifth floors of Exchange Station which is based in the centre of Liverpool. Deborah McLaughlin, Executive Director of CEG calls the building the “cornerstone of the central business district.”
It was a large technical project with a final budget in excess of £750,000. Using our own directly employed, experienced specialists to carry out the new wiring infrastructure, lighting, communications cabling, mains and power distribution systems, we rose to the challenge, and brought the project in on time and within budget.
All aspects of electrical installation and design were taken into account during the project, using our own Trimble electrical design software, Relux lighting design software and AutoCad architectural program, we were able to demonstrate to our client that the installation would perform and cope with the future requirements of the tenant Liverpool John Moores University.
As well as the power infrastructure and Cat 6A communications installation, the building’s fit out included a complete new lighting installation which required the carefully considered design of each floor within the building to ensure the required lighting levels and uniformity was achieved and maintained. Moreover, we designed the lighting with cost-efficiency in mind to ensure the client gained their desired aesthetics without incurring increased costs. The new energy efficient LED lighting was installed throughout to increase longevity and less demand on energy consumption. As a result, our clients benefited from superb colour rendering, minimal maintenance costs, enhanced output and massive reduction in energy costs.
Talke 16
Talke 16 warehouse, Stoke
Electrical and lighting installation including inspection and testing
Talke 16 is a 180,100 SQ FT refurbished warehouse and manufacturing facility based in Stoke. In 2018, we completed a project at the site which cost around £300k. The work was carried out throughout the building and included two new main switch panels, new mains distribution boards, small power distribution and new LED lighting installation over the entire square footage.
As the new incoming tenant inherited a mains and sub mains distribution system which was obsolete and in poor condition, it was decided that a new mains distribution system throughout the building would be installed, starting from the two existing LV substations and switchrooms. The systems were designed to suit the demand, application, and location. This ensured Talke 16 benefited from enhanced usability and practicality. Plus, to ensure electrical safety, the installation was NICEIC inspected, tested, and certified to British standards and the current IEE Regulations.
Our in-house and approved lighting specialists, Ozone Lighting Solutions, surveyed the warehouse’s existing lighting and carried out energy and maintainability assessments. New energy-efficient lighting was installed featuring low-energy LED luminaires with a lifetime in excess of 50,000 hours with less than half of the energy demands than the traditional fittings, incorporating intelligent lighting controls which monitor occupancy levels and lets the user make decisions of where low and high traffic areas are to place stock in the correct area to reduce energy usage further. The new lighting installation ensured Talke 16 benefited from low maintenance and cost efficiency while gaining increased light quality.
Upon completion the project was tested, commissioned and the building handed back to the client.
Mail Order Online Ltd
Southport
LED and lighting controls installation
A lighting system replacement project for Mail Order Online Ltd which resulted in huge benefits for the online retailer. Prior to our work, the company’s warehouse in Southport had high-energy consuming low output metal halide (MH) lighting.
MH lighting has major drawbacks when it comes to energy efficiency, lamp life and light output. These type of luminaires have high energy consumption, extremely long warm up periods to reach optimum brightness, suffer from lamp degradation and are expensive to maintain. When used to illuminate a large space like a warehouse, it can take up to 15 minutes to reach full brightness which means the lighting needs to be left permanently on throughout business hours. This results in energy being wasted in areas of non occupation.
The type of LED used in this project resolved these issues. As LED luminaires can be switched on and off instantly, the lighting incorporated occupancy and daylight detectors which switch the lighting off in racking aisles when there is no activity and dimming or switching off the luminaires individually when there is adequate daylight. The lighting installed also has a much longer life-span than MH lights and do not emit polluting radiation, making them safer and better for the environment.
By replacing the client’s MH lighting with LED luminaires, they benefited from huge reductions in energy costs. The work was also carried out through Carbon Trust funding to help the client save further costs on their energy spend. This meant that Mail Order Online has the capability to recoup the funds expended in their investment within a very short period.

Globus
Trafford Park, Manchester
Brand new installation of LED lighting
Globus is an international leader in hand protection solutions based in Manchester. Prior to working with us, the company had out-of-date lighting solutions installed in its internal warehouse. As a result, substantial energy and maintenance costs were being incurred.
After surveying the site, we proposed replacing the existing lighting with LED luminaries. Through this upgrade, the client would experience massive reductions in energy costs, minimal maintenance costs, fantastic colour rendering (which ranges from 3000 kelvin warm white through to 6000 kelvin daylight) and many more benefits.
Once Globus accepted our proposal, the installation was carried out by our in-house lighting specialists, Ozone Lighting Solutions. They have an NICEIC UKAS accredited team who install lighting systems in full compliance with BS7671 IEE regulations. They are also ISO 9001 and ISO14001 accredited so quality is assured with as little impact to the environment as possible.
Thanks to the brand new installation of industrial LED lighting, Globus benefited from high output, low energy LED luminaires featuring enhanced operational efficiency. The LED lighting replacements also resulted in much better light quality with a colour temperature to suit the industrial environments of the warehouse. Additionally, the client has almost eliminated the frequent need and expensive to-hire access equipment to maintain its lighting.
Tabley Court
Tabley Court, Altrincham
Internal and external electrics and lighting
Tabley Court is a 1,170 sq ft commercial building based in Altrincham. We have been working on a large internal and external electrics project at the site which includes power systems and lighting installation plus computer networks, LED lighting and power savings.
In terms of the power systems installation, we started the work by ensuring that all aspects of the electrical installation and design were taken into account. So we could suppress the risk of a power supply overload which can result in fire.
We also used electrical installation design software to ensure the electrical distribution systems comply with current regulations. This gave our expert engineers the green light to carry out the power systems installation safely and swiftly. Included in the works was a computer network set up for the office environment.
The same level of care was applied to the new lighting installation. We worked closely with the client to understand their lighting requirements and used state-of-the-art design software to ensure each luminaire type chosen matched the client’s specifications. All the while considering high-performing, cost-efficient and aesthetically pleasing lighting solutions.
This led us to install LED luminaires that feature 50,000 hrs lamp life, 3-5 years warranty, top-tier colour rendering, dimming capability and many more valuable features. This enabled the client to reap the perks of huge reductions in energy costs, minimal maintenance costs and enhanced lighting control.
